This is non-emergency ambulance service
Before anything about price: if someone is having chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke, or any other emergency, call 911. A 911 response is designed to reach you in minutes with the full weight of the emergency system behind it. Heart2Heart runs scheduled, non-emergency ambulance transport — planned trips where a patient needs clinical support in the vehicle but is not in crisis.
That distinction is also why private ambulance service is priced the way it is. You are booking a specific vehicle, a trained crew, and a time window, rather than paying into an emergency response system.
What the $450 base rate covers
The BLS ambulance rate is $450 base plus $15 per mile. Every ambulance transport includes a medical escort — a trained attendant who rides with the patient door to door and monitors them for the length of the trip. That is not an add-on on our price list; it is the reason this vehicle exists.
- BLS-equipped ambulance and crew
- Medical escort included on every ambulance transport
- Door-through-door service at both ends
- Comfort package: blanket, climate control, and bottled water
- One companion rides free, space permitting
When an ambulance is the right vehicle — and when it is overkill
Book a BLS ambulance when the patient needs monitoring or clinical support during the trip: oxygen management, an unstable but non-emergent condition, a discharge where the hospital has specified ambulance-level transport, or a long-distance transfer where a lot can change in two hours on the road.
Do not book an ambulance simply because the patient cannot walk. If the patient must lie flat but is stable, a stretcher van at $420 base plus $13.20 per mile does the same job for less. If the patient can sit up, a wheelchair van at $180 base plus $9.60 per mile is the right answer. Our dispatchers will steer you to the cheaper correct vehicle rather than upsell you into this one.
Why private ambulance costs less than an emergency bill
Families are often shocked by an emergency ambulance bill after a 911 call, then assume any ambulance is unaffordable. Scheduled non-emergency transport is a different product with a published rate: base plus mileage, quoted before the trip, with no surprise balance arriving weeks later. On a typical DeKalb County or intown Atlanta route — Emory Decatur Hospital to a home in Decatur, or a downtown Atlanta campus out to Stone Mountain — the mileage portion stays modest and the total is knowable in advance.
Insurance, Medicaid, and how to pay
Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and is never guaranteed, and we do not bill Medicaid.
Every other private ambulance trip on our public site is private pay. Heart2Heart does not accept Medicaid under any circumstances. Private-pay trips are paid by card; call dispatch at (678) 696-1583 with payment questions.

Heart2Heart Medical Transport does not accept Medicaid under any circumstances. Dialysis is the only trip type billed to insurance (commercial, Medicare, or a qualifying Medicare Advantage plan), and prior authorization must be on file before the trip. All other transports are private pay. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.
