Medical Transportation to Northside Hospital Locations

Heart2Heart transports patients to and from Northside Hospital campuses in Decatur and select areas of Atlanta in wheelchair vans, stretcher vehicles with two trained attendants, and BLS ambulances. Heart2Heart Medical Transport is an independent transportation provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or contracted with Northside Hospital. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and is never guaranteed, and we do not bill Medicaid. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are paid by card at booking.

    Getting across town to Northside

Northside Hospital campuses sit in Decatur and select areas of Atlanta, which means most of our Northside trips are cross-town runs rather than neighborhood hops. For a family in Decatur or East Atlanta whose loved one is being treated at a Northside location, that drive is exactly the problem: it is too far and too complicated to manage in a personal car with someone who cannot sit up or cannot transfer alone.

We run that trip as a scheduled transport with a fixed price agreed before we roll. Enter both addresses in the trip calculator and you will see the quote — base rate plus mileage, no hidden cross-town surcharge.

Wheelchair and stretcher capable, both directions

Two things decide which vehicle you need: can the patient sit upright for the whole ride, and do they need clinical monitoring on the way.

    • Wheelchair van — patient sits safely, ADA ramp, secured chair, door-through-door
    • Stretcher — patient stays lying flat, two trained attendants, transfers handled entirely by crew
    • BLS ambulance — medically stable but needs monitoring or an EMT-level attendant en route

Discharge pickups from a Northside campus

Discharge from a hospital that is not around the corner adds a layer of timing risk: if the ride is late, the patient sits in a wheelchair by the door for an hour. We handle that by anchoring on the discharge window and staging accordingly rather than starting the drive after someone calls to say the paperwork is done.

Case managers can book directly. We need the campus, unit and room, mobility level, receiving address, and who is responsible for payment. If the patient is going home on a stretcher, say so on the first call — that changes the vehicle and the crew, and stretcher transportation is what we do best.

    Outpatient appointments, pre-op, and follow-ups

Surgical consults, imaging, infusion, and post-op follow-ups at Northside outpatient locations are all routine trips for us. For a patient who is recovering and not steady on their feet, the difference between a wheelchair van with door-through-door service and a rideshare that drops them at a curb is the difference between making the appointment and cancelling it.

We book the return with the outbound leg. One companion rides free — usually the family member who is going to be the one remembering what the surgeon said.

Transfers between Northside and other facilities

Facility-to-facility moves — hospital to skilled nursing, skilled nursing to a Northside outpatient center, or a return transfer to a facility closer to home — are scheduled non-emergency transfers. We confirm the sending unit and the receiving room before dispatch so a crew is never standing in a lobby trying to find out where the patient is supposed to go.

Payment: private pay, with one exception

Trips to and from Northside locations are private pay. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and is never guaranteed, and we do not bill Medicaid. Coverage depends on the member's specific plan.

We do not accept Medicaid or managed-Medicaid products in any form. Private-pay trips are paid by card; call dispatch at (678) 696-1583 with payment questions.

    Frequently asked questions

Yes. Tell us the campus, unit, room, and discharge window plus the destination address, and we will bring the right vehicle — wheelchair van, stretcher, or BLS ambulance — and take her door-through-door.

Yes. Stretcher transportation is our specialty, with two trained attendants on every stretcher trip and the patient lying flat from the hospital bed to the bed at home.

Northside campuses are in Decatur and select areas of Atlanta rather than in our immediate DeKalb core, so we quote a pickup window rather than a fast local response. Same-day is usually workable when you call earlier in the day.

No. Heart2Heart Medical Transport is an independent transportation provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or contracted with Northside Hospital.

It depends on vehicle type and distance — wheelchair trips start at a lower base than stretcher trips, and both add per-mile charges. The trip calculator gives you the exact number for your route in about thirty seconds.
