Longer runs, planned as longer runs
Wellstar facilities sit in Decatur and select areas of Atlanta, and for families based in Decatur, East Atlanta, or elsewhere in DeKalb, a Wellstar trip is a planned run rather than a quick hop. We price and schedule it that way: a confirmed pickup window, a quoted price before dispatch, and a crew assigned to that trip rather than squeezed between two others.

Discharge home or to a facility closer to family
Two discharge patterns come up constantly. The first is straight home, where the question is whether the doorway, hallway, and bedroom can take a wheelchair or a stretcher — we ask about that before we arrive so the crew is not improvising in a hallway. The second is a discharge to a skilled nursing or rehab facility, often chosen because it is nearer the daughter or son who will be visiting.
Either way we need the unit and room, the discharge window, the receiving address and contact, and the mobility level. That is the whole intake. Case managers can book directly with dispatch.
Stretcher transportation to and from Wellstar facilities
If the patient cannot sit upright, the trip needs a stretcher, and a stretcher needs two trained attendants. That is our specialty, and it is the main reason families end up calling us after being turned down elsewhere.
The patient never sits up: the crew transfers them from the bed to the stretcher with a draw sheet, secures and covers them, loads the stretcher into the vehicle, and reverses the process at the destination bed. Details are on our stretcher transportation page.
Appointment rides that actually show up
Infusion, imaging, wound care, dialysis, and specialist follow-ups at Wellstar locations are all standard bookings. For recurring care we set the schedule once and keep it, including the return leg, so a family is not re-arranging transportation every week.
One companion rides free on every trip. For patients who get confused in unfamiliar buildings, that companion — plus door-through-door service into the waiting area — is often the difference between an appointment kept and an appointment missed.
What we need to quote your trip
For a self-serve number, the trip calculator prices the route by vehicle type in about thirty seconds — no phone call required to find out what it costs.
- Pickup address or facility, unit, and room
- Destination address and a contact who will answer
- Whether the patient travels by wheelchair, stretcher, or needs BLS monitoring
- Date and time window, and whether a return leg is needed
- Any oxygen or equipment traveling with the patient
Payment and coverage
Trips to Wellstar facilities are private pay. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and is never guaranteed, and we do not bill Medicaid. Coverage depends on the member's specific plan.
We do not accept Medicaid or managed-Medicaid products. Private-pay trips are paid by card; call dispatch at (678) 696-1583 with payment questions.

Heart2Heart Medical Transport does not accept Medicaid under any circumstances. Dialysis is the only trip type billed to insurance (commercial, Medicare, or a qualifying Medicare Advantage plan), and prior authorization must be on file before the trip.
