Aetna & Dialysis Transportation in Atlanta & DeKalb
Some Aetna Medicare Advantage plans include a supplemental transportation benefit, and some Aetna commercial plans cover non-emergency transportation for dialysis — but both vary by plan, and neither is automatic. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and is never guaranteed, and we do not bill Medicaid. Aetna Better Health, which is Aetna's Medicaid product, is not accepted. Verify your specific benefits with the number on your member card.

Which Aetna card is in your wallet?
Aetna is not one thing. The name sits on employer group plans, individual commercial plans, Medicare Advantage plans, and Aetna Better Health, which is the Medicaid line of business. Those products follow different rules, and the answer to "does Aetna cover my dialysis ride" changes completely depending on which card you are holding. Before you call anyone, look at the card and note the exact plan name printed on it — not just the logo.
Heart2Heart Medical Transport is an independent transportation provider and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Aetna.
Aetna commercial plans
Commercial coverage for non-emergency medical transportation varies from plan to plan, and it is usually spelled out in the plan documents rather than advertised. Dialysis is the trip type where it is most likely to appear at all, because end-stage renal disease involves a fixed, medically required schedule rather than discretionary travel. Whether your particular plan includes it, and under what conditions, is a question only your plan documents and member services can answer.
Aetna Medicare Advantage plans
Medicare Advantage plans may add supplemental benefits that Original Medicare does not offer, and transportation is a common one. Aetna's Medicare Advantage offerings differ by county and by plan year, so two neighbors in DeKalb County with Aetna Medicare cards can genuinely have different transportation benefits. Trip limits, approved destinations, and whether an outside provider can be authorized are all plan-level decisions.
Aetna Better Health — not accepted
Aetna Better Health is a Medicaid product. Heart2Heart does not accept Medicaid under any circumstances, including managed-Medicaid plans sold under a familiar commercial brand name. If your card says Aetna Better Health, your transportation is arranged through Georgia's Medicaid NEMT broker, and we cannot serve those trips at any price. We say this early rather than after a scheduling call because a wasted week is expensive when you dialyze three times a week.
What to have ready before you call
Most delays we see are not denials. They are missing information that turns a ten-minute setup into a three-day back-and-forth. Gather this first and the rest moves quickly.
- Your Aetna member ID and the group number, exactly as printed on the card.
- The full plan name — for example whether it is an employer commercial plan or a Medicare Advantage plan — because the benefit path differs.
- Your dialysis clinic's name, address, and phone number, plus the clinic contact who handles transportation.
- Your standing treatment days and chair times, including how long treatment typically runs, so pickups are scheduled against real end times.
- Your mobility level: whether you ambulate, use a wheelchair, need lift assistance, or require a stretcher. This determines the vehicle level requested on the authorization.
- Your prescribing nephrologist's name and practice, since authorization documentation generally originates there.

One thing we will never do is tell you a trip is covered before the plan says so. If a scheduler anywhere tells you coverage is guaranteed without an authorization number in hand, treat that as a red flag.
Everything that is not dialysis
Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and is never guaranteed, and we do not bill Medicaid. Rides to a specialist appointment, a hospital discharge, an infusion center, a wedding, or a family gathering are private pay regardless of what your Aetna card says. That is a business rule on our side, not a coverage determination on Aetna's.
Private-pay trips are paid by card; call dispatch at (678) 696-1583 with payment questions. For high-frequency riders, membership plans lower the effective per-ride cost.

Heart2Heart Medical Transport does not accept Medicaid under any circumstances.
